Get a patient-centered approach to dentures at Carolina Mountain Dental
Losing a tooth is no fun; losing more than one creates problems that you have to solve to be able to eat properly and smile widely. It doesn’t matter if you’ve had a lifetime of dental issues and lost your teeth one by one over the years. Even if you find yourself with health problems or injuries that caused you to lose them all at once, dentures are an effective, affordable solution.
When you look for dentures in Asheville, you must insist on finding a compassionate, experienced, reliable dentist who understands your frustration and wants to serve your best interests. Your local dentist must be committed to helping you get the quality of life you deserve. And dentures often prove to be the best alternative for you, your budget and your lifestyle.
What Are Dentures Anyway?
In a nutshell, dentures are removable appliances with teeth attached. They fill the void in your mouth when your natural teeth can’t be salvaged. Dentures:
- Allow you to chew your food and eat nutritionally complete meals
- Complete your facial appearance
- Prevent you from looking older than you are
- Help you speak clearly
- Fill out your face and your profile so your cheeks don’t sag
- Improve your smile
- Closely resemble your natural teeth
Before you lost your teeth — or when you’re going through the process of getting bad teeth removed — you may have taken so many things for granted: like eating, smiling and talking. Once your teeth are gone, those simple actions become difficult or embarrassing. The emotional impact of losing all your teeth takes its toll too. You try to cover up your mouth when you smile, avoid social interactions and rely on soft foods for nourishment. We can relieve you of all those concerns.
Tooth Loss and You
If you feel embarrassed or ashamed about losing your teeth, you are not alone. There are nearly 35 million people in the United States that don’t have any teeth, according to The American College of Prosthodontists. And another 178 million are missing at least one tooth.
The medical consequences of not replacing missing teeth are serious. If you don’t wear dentures, you face a higher risk for:
- Diabetes
- Nutritional deficiencies
- Obesity
- Cancer
- Coronary artery disease
The reasons for tooth loss are varied, though the most common causes of complete tooth loss are gum disease and decay. You may need dentures for other reasons that could include:
- Injury to your mouth
- Wear and tear
- Oral cancer, which kills one person every hour in the U.S.

You Have Options
Your missing teeth can be replaced with complete denture if you are missing all of your teeth, or you can go with partial dentures if your remaining teeth are strong enough to anchor a partial denture. If you are looking for the most comfortable and stable option, you can go with implant supported dentures. While you are waiting for your individual, unique dentures to be made, you can wear temporary dentures, or you can have your dentures placed the same day your remaining teeth are removed, so you don’t have to go a day without teeth.
